Long Beach Sea Festival Welcomes Clash of the Clowns Dive Show
McCormick Divers Booster Club presents the most exciting event to hit Long Beach’s Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool since it opened for the 1968 Olympic Trials. Finland’s Jerobeam Clown Dive Team, the modestly self-proclaimed “World’s Best Clown Dive Team” is traveling to Long Beach August 19, 20, and 21, 2011 to perform for the Clash of the Clowns an official event of Long Beach Sea Festival. The team regularly performs to sell-out crowds throughout Europe. Troupe leader, Osmo Meskanen says the divers are thrilled to bring his team to the U.S. for the McCormick Fundraiser. Troupe video and parody material are available at www.ClashoftheClowns.com.

Both Haley and Troy are competing in the U.S. Diving Senior Nationals at UCLA this week. U.S. Diving sponsors the Olympic Trials. Among the VIP’s attending Friday’s show are diving legend, Dr. Sammy Lee who won gold in both 1948 and 1952 Olympics, Olympic Gold Medal winner Sue Gossick (1968), Olympic Medalists Tom Gompf (1964), Frank Gorman (1964), Craig Lincoln (1972), World Champion Janet Ely (1974), and more will be in attendance.
Part of the Friday Community Day fun includes the Celebrity Plunge. Long Beach fire fighters are planning to thrill the crowd with a jump from the 10-meter platform – as high as a 3-story building. Local media representatives, politicians and entertainment celebs are expected to join the Clown Troupe and Fire Fighters in the 3-story jump. Fans can preview the plunge Thursday August 18th by tuning into the KTLA-5 Morning Show when reporter Allie MacKay will be the first to brave the trip up to the top of the 10-meter Platform.
While all of the Jerobeam diving antics are hilariously funny, one of the most exciting aspects of the show is the fire stunt. Insphere Insurance Solutions is helping to pay for the Long Beach Fire Marshall members to attend to insure everyone’s safety. Insphere is happy to support this exciting event as a reminder that even if we take all the proper precautions, accidents happen. They want people to be sure they have the proper health, emergency and critical care protection before something happens.
Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool has been the site of many TV and movie shoots and the McCormick Divers’ coaches have been technical experts and stunt divers on shows including “House”, “So You Think You Can Dive” “Community” and “Zeke and Luther” in recent years.
McCormick Divers provides a fun and safe environment for children and teens. The team trains both at the Belmont Plaza pool and at the ML King pool near Long Beach City College. McCormick Divers Club Team offers a positive alternative to gangs, drugs, and violence. The team is coached by experienced professionals with the goal of developing young talent and helping build self-esteem while striving to instill the values of hard work, good sportsmanship and the value of participating in the community. Fundraising events like this help keep divers’ costs down so more community members can participate in the sport.
