Reid, Bodnar evnision plunging to new heights at Master Meet

LONG BEACH – These guys are becoming masters of qualifying for the Masters Meet.

Poly High junior Deon Reid and St. Anthony junior Nyko Bodnar will compete in their third CIF Southern Section Swimming and Diving Masters Meet today at 4 p.m. at the Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine.

This year, both enter the competition having won CIF divisional diving titles last week.

From Helsinki to Huntington — Two Diving Greats Meet

Almost 60 years ago, Huntington Beach resident and diving legend, Dr. Sammy Lee was in Helsinki, Finland winning his second Olympic Gold medal at the 1952 Olympic Games.

Last year, Sammy got together with a room full of diving greats from all over the U.S. to celebrate his 90th birthday. Long Beach Divers to Compete at National Championships

Three McCormick Divers are headed to Texas in April for the Junior West National Championships. Top Long Beach Diver, Deon Reid of Bixby Knolls, qualified with a third place finish on 1 and 3 meter springboard in the boys’ 16 to 18 year old category. Brandon Loschiavo earned a trip to Nationals with a second place finish on 1 meter and fourth place on 3 meter springboard in the boys 14 to 15 year old competitions.

Long Beach Poly High School Junior, Reid earned over 50 points on 3 dives on the 3 meter board. His highest score on 3 meter was 60.20 points on the reverse two-and-one-half somersault dive. His highest score on 1 meter with 55.90 points on his front two-and-one-half somersault dive. Huntington Beach Dwyer Middle School 7th Grader, Loschiavo, earned 45.10 points on 1 meter with a front one-and-one-half somersault with a full twist.
