Short Sighted Pool Plan Gaurantees Lost Money for Long Beach

After years of patching, wrangling, and making do, the City of Long Beach finally has to come to terms with the need to rebuild the aging Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool. Twelve years ago, the City entertained plans to demolish the pool to build a state-of-the-art facility. Then, following the 9/11 attack in New York City, those plans were put on hold. Again in 2005, another plan was discussed, but never materialized. The facility has limped along, but now cannot continue operating. Continue reading

McCormick Divers Adds Another National Champion To The List

2011 La Serna High School graduate Adam Springer turned in an outstanding performance at this weeks AAU National Diving Championships at the Riverside Aquatic Complex. In his last junior competition before becoming an NCAA diver, Adam was the awarded the gold medal and national championship in platform diving in his age group. He also won the bronze medal on the three-meter springboard and placed fourth in the one-meter diving competition. Adam received three AAU All-American honors.

Adam was a stand-out diver at La Serna High School. He was named Daily News All-Area first team swim/dive three time, competed in four CIF finals and two CIF Masters competition. Adam trains with McCormick Divers in Long Beach. He will be attending and competing at the University of California San Diego in the fall.

We at McCormick Divers wish Adam Spring all the best in his new endeavor in college and a big CONGRATULATIONS for earning his first national title! We can’t wait to follow his progress and see what’s in-store for us next summer.

Local McCormick Divers Head to CIF Divisions

Local divers Lauren Skinner of Wilson, Deon Reid of Poly and Nyko Bodnar of St. Anthony are headed for CIF Championships this week.

Skinner, a sophomore at Wilson, is a first year varsity high school diver and has qualified for CIF Championships and will compete in the Division Two Women’s Event on Tuesday, May 10th. Continue reading
